My Three Fathers (Part 1)

My first father was biological.

From him I learned that life can be hard, unfair, and can hit below the belt.He taught me how to stand like a man, throw a punch, and absorb physical and mental trauma. He taught me how to be tough, how to survive, but not how to live.

My second father was symbolic and idealistic.

He taught me how to feel with my eyes, to think with my hands, and to trust my senses. He taught me that I was worthy, clever, and could excel if I really did the work.He taught me to question, to teach myself, and to love learning and exploration.

My third father is adopted and gentle.

From him, I gradually gained full acceptance into a sweet family. From him I learned that everyone suffers, and that music and humour can soften difficult moments. He showed me that love can be humble, quiet and unspoken, yet present and unwavering.
